Dr. Giorgos Papanastasiou completed a BSc.Eng degree in Material Science and Engineering (5-year degree), at the University of Ioannina, Greece. He received a MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering, from National Technical University of Athens/ University of Patras, Greece. He also completed a MSc.R degree in Cardiovascular Biology from the School of Clinical Sciences of the University of Edinburgh, UK during which he gained broad expertise in bioinformatics, bioengineering, biophysics and biomathematics across different research projects. Further, Giorgos received a PhD degree in Medical Physics and Mathematical modelling at Edinburgh Imaging-QMRI and the British Heart Foundation-Centre for Cardiovascular Science, of the University of Edinburgh.
Currently, Giorgos is a Research Fellow in Computational multi-modality imaging and Biomedical Engineering, working at the Image Analysis lab of the Edinburgh Imaging-QMRI of the University of Edinburgh. He works across different computational and machine learning techniques to improve early diagnosis, therapy monitoring and gain a deeper understanding of various pathologies and physiology systems (from cardiovascular, respiratory up to neurology). He has 2 commercial contracts with private companies (Athersys, GSK) and contributes across a number of academic projects and grants.
